Speaker Boehner Campaigns For Rep. Bobby Schilling in Illinois, Says President Obama Has No Vision to Get America’s Economy Growing

Flanked by two big rigs at an Illinois small business yesterday afternoon, Speaker Boehner praised freshman Rep. Bobby Schilling as a “down to earth, real guy” who is working hard and listening to people in the 17th District that are concerned about jobs. Boehner also criticized President Obama’s failure to articulate a clear vision to grow the economy over the next four years, and urged the administration to set the record straight on “what it knew, and when it knew it” about the 9/11 terror attack that killed four Americans in Libya. Key excerpts are included below, and additional photos from the Speaker’s visit are available here

Boehner: Small Businessman Bobby Schilling is Working Hard & Listening to the People in Illinois 17th District:

“You know Bobby, and what you see is what you get: down to earth, real guy, representing the people here in this district... [and] let me tell you what, he’s going to win in three weeks.”

Boehner says President Obama has failed to articulate how he would help get Americans working again during a second term:

“When I was watching the debate the other night, frankly, I thought Governor Romney did a great job. When it came to the issues of the economy, all President Obama could do was criticize Governor Romney. Not one time during this whole debate, or even the first debate, have you heard any vision from the president about what he would do over the next four years, if he got re-elected, to create jobs and put Americans back to work. All we’ve heard out of the president over these past six months is that we need to raise taxes on small business owners. Well, that will really help. Where is the president’s vision? The fact is, he doesn’t have one.”

Boehner: President Obama has failed to lead on the big issues facing America:

“What we see out of the President is simply a lack of leadership. No leadership on solving our deficit problems. No leadership when it comes to the fiscal cliff that we’re going to face with tax rates going up on January 1st, or the sequester going into effect on January 2nd, or the need to increase the debt limit in mid-February. The president has been AWOL, he’s been campaigning since a year ago Labor Day.”

Boehner says President Obama needs to level with the American people about the 9/11 terror attack in Benghazi:

“And then the other night in the debate, when it came to this whole issue of Benghazi, I was shocked. I was shocked that the President attempted to mislead the American people about what he knew, and when he knew it. This is a very serious situation. Four Americans were killed because of the failure of this administration. It’s time for the president to level with the American people and tell the American people the truth about what they knew and when they knew it, and who was responsible for the deaths of these four Americans.”
